Sister Wives 3: The Regeneration

Recommended Posts

Hey Rachel! I thought my country was being a bit... irresponsible in its messaging. You guys have it on a whole other level.

Are you still working at the animal shelter? At least you get to say hi to cute animals as part of your job!

I could understand our governor's worry about the economic impact, however, it was really sucky to actually hear our lieutenant governor say that it was okay to accept some sacrifice (people's deaths!) for the sake of the economy! I guess that is capitalism at its finest?

I am still at the animal shelter. We are trying to be as safe as possible while providing services to the community. I'm thankful to be at a place at the moment with sane leadership.

Are you guys working/studying at the moment?

Wow, that’s just... I have no words. I’m glad to live a place where those who rule care more about people than money. I guess Norway is kind off socialistic as well, compared to US, not like communist, but we do have pretty high taxes (about 35% I think), and a really good welfare system. I can totally understand people in US deciding to not stay home if they have symptoms, or not get tested when their sick, since that would have a great economic impact on their life. Over here it doesn’t really. If you’re sick you pay like $20 if you go to your regular doctor, but the moment you’re hospitalized it’s free. Also if you reach about $250 a year in doctor and medicine cost, everything’s free for the rest off the year. So yeah...

It’s great that you’re at a place with San leadership, and working with animals is great. And their needs doesn’t really change even if the world did a total flip. Did you have to adjust to a lot off new rules at work?

I’m on summer holidays at the moment. So I enjoy life, not doing much, but that’s the best holidays in my opinion. I’ve worked through the whole pandemic though, did online teaching from March 13. until some mid-may, and then it was split between online and being at school for the rest off the semester. It worked surprisingly smooth.

My  life was depressingly not impacted that much by lockdown, I work from home a lot so with the reduced hours from my clients, I mostly just caught up with some reading... I'm planning to go to college in autumn, which I think was accidentally the best plan I could've made - I decided to go in January because I was fed up with my work and once corona hit, the work shrank to such a low level that I'm really grateful to have student loans as a plan B, as it were. What a world we are living in.

Yeah, my work drastically changed. We closed the shelter to the public, so all of our appointments have only been curbside. And we all have to wear masks inside the shelter the whole day. To be honest, I really enjoy our new appointment system. We used to operate mostly by appointments previously, but since we were open to the public, we could be called down for a walk-in at any point during the day. Which was kind of annoying if we had other work planned. So I feel a lot less stress knowing how the day is going to go. Plus, once appointments are done for the day, I can work the rest of the day from home.

That's awesome that you're going back to school! What are you going to be studying come January?

I like the appointment system style of doing things too. It's a bit stressful as a customer (WHAT IF I MISS MY SLOT THE WORLD MIGHT END) but it makes general social interaction a bit easier.

Thanks! I'm doing Business & Entrepreneurship, it's a Bachelor of Arts (fancy) but in my hometown (less fancy, way less stress than moving away). I actually deciced on it back in January, it starts in September which is so soon god help.

Hi everyone, I can't sleep so wanted to pop in :)

COVID is crazy, I'm still going into work most days, but it's very different. Our building is closed and we are doing things mostly online/through phone and drive-up appointments.

Brinn is right that things in Texas are crazy. I'm in Harris County, and at least our county judge (kind of like the "mayor" of our county) is doing what she can to enforce mask and stay-home orders. But there is only so much she can do, since she can't override our dumbass governor. But it's scary since everyday we hear of people closer to us who have tested positive, even people who are staying at home. Oh, and also, there is a huge delay in testing here. Some people are able to get rapid tests (probably outside of the city) but most people finish their two week quarantine before getting test results back.

I'm actually about to go out of town for a getaway, but we're going to the beach where we can still socially distance. Work has been crazy since March for both my boyfriend and I and we need some time to destress...

Kerry, I read your post about you and Sam. I'm sorry about your break-up, but I hope you are able to start a new chapter in your life!

I'm working from home today so hopefully I can check in and catch up on more posts 💜

Hey, nice seeing you around! I did see this the other day but haven't had the emotional energy to respond yet.

I'm so ready to start afresh but there's so much to get done still, I'm just exhausted!

I hope you've been able to keep safe and enjoy your little getaway!

Guys. Not sister wives related but kinda, I guess. I write regular stories for the internet, and I decided that the one for next week could be about fandom (been thinking about fandom/religion/cult/family and how weird it is that almost everyone I know, I know through MCR). So I thought I'd do the story as a version of a fan forum, complete with thread titles and timestamps. And page counters. And smileys. On Microsoft Word.

It was either the best or worst creative decision I've ever made. Send help.

Am totally stealing some of our thread titles.

Honestly, I went away to a fancy city for my degree, but you quickly learn that even if a university *sounds* impressive, doesn't mean it will actually help you get a job any quicker than someone who went to a local university.

Also, this could be a Texas thing, but going to the state schools here holds a lot of weight for networking purposes (if you plan to work in Texas after school.) Although I know England is much smaller, so maybe it makes less of a difference?

I'm excited to read your new piece!

That's a good point. I think networking opportunities depend on *what* you're networking about, maybe? The UK is teeny tiny compared to Texas but it's still comparatively hard to travel from one end to another, so I think where you go might impact your opportunities in some ways. I dunno - my course actually got cancelled this year so I'm taking it next year instead. 🙄 Figuring out what to do in the mean time has been a GIANT HEADACHE, but I think I'm going to do a one-year business course at the same college, so I'll kind of be doing a 4 year course instead of 3. It's not ideal, but the economy is so shit at the moment that it might be nice to get out of the jobs market for a few years.

Ah thanks! I'll link it here when I put it up on my stories blog. :)

When I come on here it says the security certificate has expired (or something to that effect) and it isn't safe. I just bypassed it 🤣 But I'm wondering if that's why it's been so quiet.

That’s what happened the last time I tried to get on so I left, but it didn’t happen this time? Maybe they reupped. Missed you guys!

I didn’t have the bypass opportunity, so I gave up. Glad it’s back to normal now, I’ve missed you guys!

How are everyone doing?

Hey! I just bypassed the SSL thing as well. Maybe someone at Warner forgot to turn auto-renew on...

I'm well, I'm really tired because it was my first week back after a holiday last week, then it was my birthday on Saturday and I actually got to ~socialise with a group~ and today was my induction at college so I'm ready to crawl into bed and never leave. In a good way?

I had lasik-surgery in my eyes today, to fix my sight and get rid off my contact lenses, and I’m amazed! I can actually see!! It did cost mad chedda as we said back in the days, and it did hurt a lot for a minute during surgery and some after, but I can see! With my Own eyes!

Now I’m gonna sleep with protection glasses to avoid rubbing my eyes and messing everything up! At least for the two first nights😛

Oh wow that's huge Sonia! How are your eyes now?

I wear glasses, my eyesight's bad enough I'm not allowed to drive without glasses but not so bad that I've considered surgery. It would be nice to not worry about face masks steaming up though!

My eyes are a bit dry, but other than that everything’s great, and I have almost perfect vision. It’s so weird being able to see from I open my eyes in the morning till I close them at night.
I never got comfortable with glasses, so I used contacts every day for probably 20 years. And it have worked well, but I was just tired off it. And since my dad had the surgery back in the days, and was really content with it, I figured I should do it, since I had saved up the money.

I see, then they’re no use. Mine were working for everything, but as you say, very expensive.

But as long as glasses work well for you, that’s a good solution Also, you look good with glasses! And this face mask time have to end one day you know. And then that’s no problem anymore.

I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like even though books and movies paint the picture that pandemics are eventful times, a real life pandemic is really not. I mean, nothing happens these days. I’m not complaining, I have work and I have Mick Mac. But I feel like the days are put on repeat. Not in a bad way, just that there’s not much exciting to tell people about.
