Mcrmy Letters For The Troops

Recommended Posts

EDIT - LETTERS DUE BY FRI OCT 28,2011, midnight. *********

So, I thought this would be a great idea to rally the troops together and do. The local Atlanta (also in Indy and Nashville) morning show is gathering up 400,000 hand written letters to send to soldiers over seas this holiday season.Getting a letter to someone this holiday season that can't be with friends or family, means a lot to those serving.

All the info you need is at The Bert Show's website, by going here: http://thebertshow.com/the-bert-shows-big-thank-you/

I copied and pasted the information here as well. If you can gather letters to send in bulk (meetups, concerts, friends, family) to all turn in bulk, it'd be appreciated. If not, feel free to send in you're one letter. You can send in more than one letter. If you want to write out 10 letters, feel free!

Remember: This isn't about politics. Keep politics out of it. This is about making someone serving over seas smile during the holidays. And these aren't just troops in the Middle East, these are troops that are stationed all over the world.

And feel free to put MCRmy on there somewhere. =D

Info from www.thebertshow.com :

Now is your chance to say thank you to our troops! The Bert Show is collecting letters of thanks so every single soldier stationed or deployed outside the United States can receive a letter of gratitude on Thanksgiving Day. We want to give our troops a “Big Thank You” with a little taste of home this Thanksgiving.

The Bert Show can only do this with your help. Let’s pull together to make this project a success! Get your class or school to write letters.

We want everyone in your church, civic group, sorority/fraternity, office, or neighborhood to write letters. Give our troops that much deserved show of appreciation by writing a letter of thank you.

Thank you so much for giving our service men and women a little connection to home this Thanksgiving with The Bert Show’s Big Thank You.

Here are the specs you need to know when writing your letter:

Each letter should be heartfelt, handwritten, original, and free of any political statements. The purpose of the letter is to express thanks to the military personnel currently deployed outside the United States. We reserve the right to eliminate those messages that are political in nature and do not reflect a positive message in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Those letters will be destroyed.

All letters must be on 8.5” x 11” paper or smaller. Do not use glue, tape, staples, cardboard, glitter or otherwise attach anything to the paper. Decorate using crayons, pencil, etc. Use both sides if you like, but use one page per letter only. Do not send cards or photographs. Feel free to include your mailing and email address, and you may get a response. Individual letters should not be sealed in envelopes.

Do not send anything except letters. We cannot accept donations of any kind, and they should not be included or attached to letters.

Every individual letter is important, but for organizational purposes, please try to submit letters in bulk whenever possible. Work with your school, church, civic group, sorority/fraternity, office, neighborhood, etc. and send all letters bundled as directed below.

For group submissions, letters should be bundled in groups of 50, 100, or 250 and held together with two rubber bands: one wrapped lengthwise and the other widthwise. This will help tremendously with sorting. The top page in the bundle should indicate clearly how many letters are included. Do not bundle letters unless they are in groups of 50, 100, or 250. If you have a partial bundle of less than 50 letters, fasten them together with a paperclip. The top page in the group should clearly indicate how many letters are included. If you are submitting 10 or fewer letters, the letters can be folded to fit into a standard business-size envelope.

Mail your letters to:

There is not yet a submission date, however the sooner you can get them turned in the better. They haven't released a deadline yet because they don't want everyone to wait until last minute. If you want a solid deadline, I'd say make sure you have them in by the second week of October.

If they announce anything official, I'll let you know.

  • 3 weeks later...

We have a deadline date!! Friday, OCTOBER 28, 2011 by midnight.

The local Atlanta radio station is wanting 400,000 hand written letters to send to the troops deployed throughout the world for Thanksgiving.

I thought this would be a great way to show the MCRmy support. The rules are above, and I just want to stress: Do not include political views. They will not send the letters if they include political agenda.

If you live in Atlanta - you can drop off letters at any Atlanta Taco Mac starting on Wednesday. The way you can mail letters is included in the above link. Also, you can message me or email me (alvanderbrink@gmail.com) and I'll get you my mailing address if you'd rather have me drop them off for you.

400,000 handwritten letters is a huge goal. Let's show The Bert Show who the MCRmy is and how we can come together. =)
